On today’s Podcast:
Just a quick hit to get you up to speed on why the podcast went MIA yesterday, and why it won’t be back until Thursday.
When I returned from our Arkansas road trip I discovered that my trusty old Mac Mini which has served as my Studio Server, the source of all the bumper music and which generates the daily program schedule for the podcast, had experienced a critical failure during an OS update. It wouldn’t boot.
I spent hours yesterday debugging and attempting to revive the Mini to no avail. I finally wiped the drive and restored a backup image – this took a LOT longer than I thought it would. I came into the studio this morning to find the Mini up and running, all the apps working, and ready to roll. BUT, the backup image I used was from December 2019 because, for some reason I don’t know yet, the Mini stopped making backups then. That means every change I’ve made since 12/31/19 is gone and I need to rebuild those changes.
Yesterday I ordered an SSD replacement drive for the failed main drive in the Studio Server. I also ordered a RAM upgrade. The SSD arrives tomorrow and the RAM arrives by the end of the day Thursday. They should speed the old Mini up a bit.
Today I will rebuild the things that weren’t in the backup file and then run a complete system backup to create an image to load onto the new SSD when it arrives. Once that’s done Everything should be better than before, and there will (hopefully) be a regular podcast on Thursday.
